Stirling and David Weber hew closer to standard military-sf than many others; both are complete masters of it, of course, who have ever so slightly pushed its limits. Happily, it’s entirely successful. Lawrence Block forsakes Matthew Scudder to present a very odd young lady of easy virtue. Likewise, Carrie Vaughan’s character herein isn’t really a werewolf but a member of the WWII WASP. --Roland Green . There really is something for everybody in it. From Booklist The title of this massive anthology implies a binding military-sf theme, but actually the book is an essay in providing lots of different genres between one set of covers. Steven Saylor goes back before Gordianus the Finder’s era to the fall of Carthage, regarded from the Carthaginian perspective. And both editors contribute,

"NavAir and the Struggle for Okinawa!" according to Mike O'Connor. The battle for Okinawa was the last great campaign of World War II, a bitterly-fought, duel-to-the death struggle that pitted hundreds of thousands of American soldiers, sailors and marines against Japanese forces determined to save the Empire. Essentially this is the story of the Kamikaze attacks and the American response to them.Gant frames the book around the experiences of the pilots of the USS Intrepid's fighter groups. We get fairly detailed information about the training and experiences of these guys and it forms a pretty good "hook" to provide context f. The USS Intrepid, a fighter squadron and the battle for Okinawa and filler. Okay first off I need to say this, why the hell are there reviews for some Anthology about Game of Thrones all over this book? AMAZON!?!?!? Surely, all those honest reviewers talking about a completely different book with what I am sure is a different cover than this one about fighter pilots and the last battle of WW2 in the Pacific.Okay that rant done. This book is about the battle for Okinawa. The author uses as a framing device the fighter pilots of VF-10 and VBF-10 on the USS Intrepid CV-11 to talk about this last battle. As well as talk about the fight the Al
