DESCRIPTION:
That's when it might be a good idea for 10 to jump ship, leaving 10 floating guinea pigs (20-10=10). But soon one guinea pig is carried away by a bunch of balloons, leaving nine waving guinea pigs (10-1=9). Rodent by rodent, the furry little critters remove themselves from the scene, surfing, exploring, sneaking, fishing, until finally just one remains. Sometimes, just sometimes, mind you, 20 guinea pigs can be too many. And another swings off a rope, leaving eight seasick guinea pigs (9-1=8). (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter. But "one can be fun." The book is especially good for helping a child see that you can subtract by counting back, not just by taking some away and then counting to see how many are left, which takes longer. And besides that, the illustrations are whimsical and colorful. My daughters find the pictures very endearing and like the guinea pigs' names. Having already read "One Guinea Pig Is Not Eno. In this charming and boisterous book about subtraction, the guinea pigs begin to jump ship, each in his or her own funny and unique way. Twenty guinea pigs can be too many--especially if all of them are crammed on a small and tipsy boat. While children follow the story of the ever-shrinking gang of guinea pigs, they can count the furry pals leaping on and around oversized numerals representing the number of cavorting cavies on the page. A simple equation that shows the subtraction is printed along the bottom of each spread, reinforcing the concept.Like its successful predecessor, One Guinea Pig Is Not Enough, this book tells a story while teac
