DESCRIPTION:

Great debut novel about marriage, murder, and madness Neal Reynolds This is Susan Crawford's first novel and hopefully not her last because this one's a suspenseful beauty. She has had short fiction and poetry published and the craftsmanship shows. Dana Carrell is a victim of bipolar disorder. We see much of the story through her eyes, and therefore we need to separate what is truly happening from what she believes to be happening. This isn't as confusing as it may sound thanks to the author's deft narration The book's title is pretty well explained in the first chapter. Her husband Peter treats her as a "pocket wife" who he can put in his pocket, like his cellular phone, to have out of his way. We also lea. Enjoyable Meredith Schorr I really enjoyed this suspense novel told from the dual POVs of a neighbor of a murdered woman and the detective assigned to the case. I guessed who the killer was abut 75% in, but I like when an author paints enough clues to allow the reader to figure things out along with characters but not too early to ruin the suspense. The writing was beautiful, especially the parts told in Dana's POV. That is exactly what happened to Dana when she finds out her next door neighbor, Celia, was murdered shortly after their last visit. Throw in a cheating husband, an absent son and a kind but tough private detective and you have the makings of a wonderful novel, can't wait to read new newest novel, The Other Widow.

Try this first novel as a read-alike for Alice LaPlante’s Turn of Mind.” (Library Journal)“Great premise, and characters, and a wonderfully evocative setting, heavy with heat and suburban boredom, and the uneasy threat of not quite knowing what is going on. Engrossing, thrilling, and page turning all the way through, this is one you won’t want to miss!” (Chevy Stevens, New York Times bestselling author)“The Pocket Wife is haunting, gripping, and lyrical--a book you won&rs
