If the occasional bit of potty humor seems senselessly over the top, it's quickly forgiven in the swirl of action and laughs in this tasty collection. From Publishers Weekly Lovers of monster comics, zombie capers and brooding heroes will enjoy the third Goon collection, with its loving mockery of horror conventions. The Goon himself is a Bogart-type antihero, and his "Rick's Café" is Norton's Pub, a dead-end joint in a landscape equal parts English village and Depression-era Chicago. "Nameless, Buzzard, Hell Boyand Vampires!" according to Patrick S. Dorazio. Four more solid and whacked out tales by Eric Powell, with a guest appearance by Hell Boy. I have never looked at a Hell Boy Graphic Novel and only know it from the movies but I certainly appreciated the surreal approach of letting him pop in on the Goon's little corner of this twisted universe.I generally have been entertained by most of the Goon's exploits thus far but those with Buzzard are always highly enjoyable. I just love that part of the Goon pantheon. The final story in this tome, about effete psu. Refreshingly Satisfying The artwork for The Goon is an absolute treat for graphic comic enthusiasts. Reminiscent of the Bone style of clear laid out artwork it is a treat for readers to enjoy both a continuing storyline, short stories as well as and most importantly the defining signature of The Goon - its artwork.. Wonderful, twisted, and stylish. Goon combines the vintage feel of 1950's Universal horror with the eerie but goofy charm of The Misfits, while delivering dynamic art and unforgettable characters. And, at the same time in certain isolated moments Goon is really really funny. The stories run a very comprehensive gamut of outlandishness and can go from hilariously over the top to downright emotionally haunting. The stories are compelling, the art is fantastic, and the characters are lovable in all of their calloused glory.
