Amazon Customer said Five Stars. A great read.. "Wow!! What a treat to be able to" according to The Hikemaster. Wow!! What a treat to be able to read Caesar's words after 2,000 years!!! What a learned individual----makes him more of a 'real' historical personage.. "Caesar's War Diary" according to Sylvia Wadlington. The Gallic War by Caesar was written just over two thousand years ago by one of the greatest military minds the world has ever known. Unfortunately many people think it is a scholarly work, which it is not, it is a war diary, carefully edited for political consumption. The value of this book is the view it gives of Caesar himself and how he met and overca

The "Gaul" that Caesar refers to is sometimes all of Gaul except for the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis (modern day Provence), encompassing the rest of modern France, Belgium and some of Switzerland. In it Caesar describes the battles and intrigues that took place in the nine years he spent fighting local armies in Gaul that opposed Roman domination. On other occasions, he refers only to that territory inhabited by the Celtic peoples known to the Romans as Gauls, from the English Channel to Lugdunum (Lyon). Commentarii de Bello Gallico (Commentaries on the Gallic War) is Julius Caesar's firsthand account of the Gallic Wars, written as a third-person narrative. The full work is split into eight sections, Book 1 to Book 8, with the last book written by Aulus Hirtius, after Caesar's death.
