Written during the chaotic 1960's, this book offers a hard look at the existential problems we face in the postmodern American world, among them isolation, the deficiencies of communication, and the elusiveness of truth and certainty. This novel reads like a collaboration between Joyce, Kafka, Vonnegut and Hunter S. Thompson and is truly enthralling (if a bit elliptic). Pynchon takes into the world of Oedipa Maas and the bizarre characters she encounters when she becomes "executri. This Novel Stands with The Great Gatsby Bernard M. Patten Her name is Oepida Maas. Her husband is Mucho Maas. Her lover was Pierce Inverarity who ran Yoyodyne Corporation in San Narciso. He psychiatrist is Dr. Hilarious. You get the idea - there are funny names in this story. Oepida is made the executor of Pierce's estate. Diligently, in this romance, satire, antidetective novel, she tries to find out the extent of her duties and the extent of the estate. Along the way, things go from simple to complex, ordered to disordered, concrete to. "Loved it, you also will" according to Kindle Customer. Wonky beautiful post-modern ramblings and a captivating story that really gets your brain working. While I read this book I thought about it basically all the time. I read this after like 5 consecutive Philip Dick books. I'm going to read a few more before I try to tackle Gravity's Rainbow
