This training is directed at developing resourcefulness, fantasy (in chess, these qualities are called combinative acuity ), and the readiness to sacrifice material, in pursuit of the goal winning! How do we develop good habits of winning endgame play? There are lots of manuals; but this may be the first in which a famous practical player, a trainer with a world-renowned name, and a study composer who has earned the title of International Grandmaster of Composition, share their views in one and the same book.. Nowadays, chessplayers spend almost all their free time preparing openings, and rarely spend the time necessary to perfect the vitally important technique of calculating. Regular training in solving and playing out endgames studies is a good recipe for eliminating that shortcoming
Disappointing Jeremy Waterman I own his endgame manual and was amazed at the detailed analysis of many types of positions therein. There is little in here in terms of advice/insight to help with calculation. Certainly studies will help calculation, but this is simply a collection of studies, for which there are many other excellent sources online. This book will sell on name recognition and the fancy title, and while certainly it isn't bad, there is no curriculum here, just a set of difficult studies.. "Nice book on endgame techniques through endgame studies" according to Billy-Bob. Very nice book on Endgame studies by Mark Dvoretsky. Like all his previous books, this book is very instructive. Studies for Practical Players explains various techniques of endgame calculations through the use of endgame studies.. Tony Makarome said Fantastic book!. I'm about USCF 1500. I found this very interesting and informative! Oleg Pervakov is a rare chess talent who should be appreciated by everyone.
