Red Hat Linux Unleashed, Third Edition gives you the information you need to install, configure, and manage the latest version of the Red Hat operating system - 5.2
"GET THIS!" according to A Customer. First of all, note that the RH version the book provides is 5.2 NOT 5.1.This book is excellent, providing an in depth reference into Red Hat Linux, and being that it is the only book to currently support 5.2, makes it the newest. It also makes a great book to learn off of. However, this book, while the rating is Intermediate to Advance, is pretty close to starting at a beginner's level, especially if you already know what Linux is, and know the basic commands.. Good for a technical person that is new to Linux Overall I believe the book is a good buy. However, there were two things I found disappointing. The first was the fact that the CDE window manager was not included on the CD's even though the book made it sound like it was (Page 107). Joe This is a love letter to what was my first exposure to Linux after 14 years. This book was like having my own personal fast-speaking geek who would rattle off everything you can do with Linux, but never slow down enough to really tell you how to do any of it (though the crash course in shell scripting came in handy later). That said, this book was the perfect combination of tools and inspiration to hook me into a phenomenon just as it went from obscure to excitingly promising. That was well worth every penny I earned serving fast food to pay for it in high school.
The book devotes copious pages to step-by-step instructions to accompany the Red Hat installation CD-ROM.Red Hat Linux Unleashed explains some troubleshooting techniques, mostly by detailing prevention. For those looking to host Web servers, the specifics of Apache, Domain Name Systems (DNS), Network Information Service (NIS) client/server database systems, and Network File System (NFS) software all receive ample coverage. The darling of the open-source movement, Linux offers up a tinkerer's dream: the ability to configure, manipulate, and (potentially) improve absolutely everything about the operating system. While Red Hat Linux Unleashed does try to be all things to all people, the authors acknowledge the impossibility of this mandate. A strong overall resource, Red Hat Linux Unleashed is a good place to start for Linux installation. The authors want readers to understand the processes underlying Linux in order to make intel
