"Passion Play is intense drama" according to Amazon Customer. Although I would have preferred that this novel was longer, I cannot give it a lower rating based on length. So 5* it is! Passion Play is very well written with amazing character depth/development and just enough backstory. The writing is tight, making every word count. The fast moving drama is intense and the sadomasochism scenes are graphically described with expertise and skill.
James is beautiful and young -- almost angelic in appearance -- and just the person to portray Jesus. Marcus will act as translator. Nearly eighty parishioners get involved, and this year brothers James and Marcus Thibodeaux, will participate. James will play Jesus, but there’s a hitch; James is deaf. Reverend Luke helps put on the Passion Play at his church every year. Or is he? When Reverend Luke begins a sexual relationship with Marcus, he discovers things about James that are hardly angelic. Can Reverend Luke convince James to be penitent and worthy of portraying Jesus?
