"I would recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about" according to S. Bergquist. I have a bunch of different kinds of mushrooms in my garden after the summer rains and was able to identify them with this book. It also helped me to understand the basic differences between kinds of mushrooms, so I didn't worry so much about my dogs eating the wrong kind of mushroom. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about their local southwestern mushrooms and how to identify them.. Zuzu's Petals said This book is excellent and a great resource. This book is excellent and a great resource. It has hundreds of color photos and also illustrations. The writing is great. Even if one were not a botanist, this book would be a great resource. It is well laid out, easy to understand (never fear if you are a layperson or just starting in a quest for Southwest mushrooms and truffles). States is a plain speaker and gets the point across.I wish States would take all areas of the U.S. to write about as he is a treasure and superb resource in the world of nature and botany.. Good book, must have if you live at the Good book, must have if you live at the southwest of the US, and going outdoors to pick natural food.
