This book not only goes over his life, and that phenomenon, it includes richly drawn context of the history of Indian cinema and general history. It was well written, thoughtful about the bigger picture surrounding Indian film production and highly informative. A great first read for a person in the US learning about Indian cinema. (Although it is my Only read on Indian cinema so there may be better, but I was pleasantly surpris
