Each knot is presented with step-by-step photos and concise instructions, and even the novice will be able to whip out surgeon's knots and Italian hitches before they know it--as this reviewer can attest! The chapter on braiding will be especially appreciated by home crafters. Lash a canoe firmly in place atop your car? A clove hitch, maybe, though the smart move is to add one more loop to create the nearly immovable constrictor knot. Need a secure loop tied in the middle of a rope during your next camping trip? Bowline on the Bight to the rescue. From Booklist Who needs a whole book on knots? Campers, anglers, and weekend first mates to name a few, and they would be doing themselves a great favor checking out this wonderfully illustrated guide to knot tying. A fine little book Brian McCombie

Outstanding Reference M. Tarter I have been very pleased with the quality and clarity with which this book is able to teach and demonstrate knot tying. Describing the motions required for tying a specific knot, which are often confusing, using only words and pictures is obviously very challenging. This book does a remarkable job. The high quality color photographs. Don't know about Ashely but for the price the best book on knots there is & I bought (and returned them all :-)Very complete concerning how to use the knots, and their terminology. Little pictograms in the upperhand corner show it's intended uses, and takes you through all the various types of material and how to prepare it for your work. But the real point is. Handbook of Knots is Excellent This is easily the best book I've seen on the subject, especially considering it's size. (Okay, so I only recall three or four.) I know a few knots, variations and principles that could be added, some discovered previously, some stimulated by the book. Hopefully the next edition will have more, as mine had more than the copy I got f
