And the photos included in this book are what you'd expect: the haunting, evocative images that Curtis is famous for.Of course, many of his photos were staged, and Curtis philosophy behind the photos--that Native peoples were a "dying race" that he needed to memorialize--is problematic, and it's always made me feel uncomfortable with the photos, even as I see the beauty in them. Still, the book was a gift, so I wasn't really expecting a critical analysis of Curtis
