DESCRIPTION:

Kenneth W. Able and Michael P. Presented in individual chapters, the species accounts include complete information about each fish's distribution, habitat use, reproduction, development, migratory patterns, prey, and predators and other natural enemies. Introductory chapters provide the general characteristics of the temperate ichthyofauna and explain the authors' methodology.Featuring new information based on more than 76,000 samples, novel long-term data, and an exhaustive analysis of more than 1,800 references, this invaluable resource is a complete compendium on estuarine fishes of the Western North Atlantic.. Fahay draw on their own studies and other research to summarize and synthesize all the known facts about the ecology of 93 important species of fish that inhabit the temperate waters of the Western Atlantic. This comprehensive reference book details the life history and ecology of the fish species that occupy the estuarine and coastal habitats along the eastern United States and Canada. The species accounts are illustrated and include lifecycle calendars, tables, and charts highlighting key information

This synthesis is a major contribution to estuarine fish studies. Fahay draw on their own studies and other research to summarize and synthesize all the known facts about the ecology of 93 important species of fish that inhabit the temperate waters of the Western Atlantic. (Choice)An impressive and important compendium that only Ken Able and Mike Fahay could produce. (Mike Elliot Journal of Fish Biology)Although this nearly monumental work sums to a wealth of hard-gained knowledge, the authors pose enough important questions to show that estuarin

"Beautiful information design; rich with data" according to Peter R Troast. Knowing the two authors, I'm certain this book is impeccable as a work of fisheries biology research (though I'm not really qualified in that field.) What impressed me most was the stunningly beautiful information design. This book would make the Edward Tufte hall of fame for excellence in the display of quantitative data. It is extremely well laid out, with a deft hand on typography and rife with y. Jessie J. Fahay said Excellent, Thorough, and Well Presented.. The layout and detail given to this text speaks to the expertise of both authors. While I am not well-versed in Marine Biology, it is clear through the text that there was an extreme amount of research and preparation for this book. Learning the ecology of Estuarine fishes is something that should be of interest to those entering into the field of Marine Bilogy. Any student of this course of study w
