Could be named "Prelude to 'Fields of Air'" Sheryl Knowles I like the Lady of Devices series. I think it may be my favorite non-graphic novel Steampunk series. And I expect novellas to be short. But I admit that this felt less like a novella and more like the first section of the following book "Fields of Air". I say that because, while one does not e. "Great series" according to Judy Zajec. This entire series is delightful. I like the characters.
