I bought it because one of the very first five star reviews said something about the main character not being Bella Swan, but being a strong 17 year old. Thatis absolute rubbish. Sofia is just as boring, bland and two-dimensional as Bella Swan, and Derek is a Cullen clone.Firstly Sofia gets kidnapped on her birthday from her family. She is naturally upset about it, but a few days in Derek's company . Amazon Customer said So the love interest hits women and that's Okay? WTF.. You know the thing that bothers me THE MOST about this book (I emphasize 'the most' since there is a long list of things I find irritating about this series) is the fact that the author has created a central love interest who hits women. Is this supposed to be part of the bestial nature of vampires?? I don't bloody think so. All I could think was WTF when he backhanded his sister after losing his temper and then casually moves on as though nothing had happened.At a time when DV has reached crisis point in Australia I wonder what the author is thinking when she creates a character teenage girls . Tried the series and it failed Brenda L I tried to give this series a chance, but can not continue. I trudged through four books and cannot imagine trying to read an additional 15+ books to get to the conclusion.While we all know what fiction is, a story should not require readers to suspend so much belief. After sleeping 400 years, Derek woke up to a world of technology without blinking an eye. He came to us already modernized and showed no amazement at what humanity has accomplished during the 400 years he snoozed. He was able to communicate with modern phrases.
